Incremental encoders produce signal periods or sequences of pulses that vary in frequency based on the rotational speed. The resolution is determined by the number of pulses per revolution. By counting the pulses, positions and rotation counts can be accurately recorded. Stainless steel variants are recommended for use in demanding environmental conditions. SICK also provides incremental encoders with a functionally safe design to support safety functions compliant with IEC 61800-5-2.
